When new members join my membership program, The Creator’s Growth Club, I send out a quick survey to understand where they’re at in their digital product journey and what they aim to achieve with our training sessions, tools, templates, and resources.
The most common feedback?
Most haven’t yet created their first digital product and are looking to hit their initial goal of earning $1,000 per month with their Etsy shop.
For me, this is exhilarating! Helping people get started with digital products on Etsy is my passion and my zone of genius. Plus, a goal of $1,000 per month is absolutely doable.
How do I know? Well, I recently revamped my own Etsy shop and hit this goal within a few months by delisting old products and listing new ones—following the exact steps, tips, and strategies I teach inside the membership.
Here’s a snapshot of my recent stats…
Yep, I hit over $1k in my Etsy shop, and I’m thrilled to share it with you! 🎉
Now, I’m not sharing this to brag but to show you that it’s entirely possible for you too.
Where to Start?
If you’re yet to create your first digital product and list it on Etsy, the first step is to ensure you have a digital product to sell.
Sometimes folks get stuck here, but I want to help you make this decision quickly so you can start creating amazing digital products and get them in front of people who want to buy them.
The Profitable Digital Product Formula
When deciding what to create, follow my profitable digital product formula, which has three essential parts:
- Your expertise, experience, or skills
- Market trends (is this something customers are looking for?)
- What your customer wants (does it solve a problem, need, or want?)
I delve into this in more detail within the membership, but these are the key factors to consider when creating your digital products.
This formula helped me achieve great sales and reach my $1,000 goal. I combined my skills and experience (using Shopify) with market trends (bold and bright branding) and customer needs (a done-for-you digital product Shopify theme) to create a Shopify Theme Kit designed specifically for digital product sellers.
If I had to start from scratch, I’d list out all my experiences, skills, and knowledge, discover trending products using Insight Factory and Pinterest, and see if there’s a demand using research tools like EverBee and Alura.
Specificity is Key
The format or type of digital product doesn’t matter as much as how the product will help your customer. For example, creating digital planners to sell on Etsy is too broad. A generic digital planner might be beautiful but won’t help your customer alone. What’s helpful is something more niche and specific, like a digital reading journal for book lovers to document their reading experiences.
Imagine inviting every customer of your digital reading journal to join an exclusive book club membership. Let’s say you charge $10 per month and convert 100 customers over time. That’s $1,000 per month in recurring revenue, outside of your Etsy shop income. Exciting, right?
