Are you looking for a fun and unique digital product idea to add to your Etsy shop? Let me introduce you to the Agamograph! These interactive printables are a hit with kids, teachers, and parents. Agamographs are perfect for seasonal products, handmade gifts, or just a fun project to keep kids busy. Stick with me, and I’ll show you how to create and sell these awesome crafts.

What is an Agamograph?

An Agamograph is a cool piece of art that changes depending on the angle you’re looking at it. It’s made with two separate images sliced up and arranged in alternating strips on a folded page. From one side, you see one image, and from the other side, you see the other image. Kids love them, teachers love them, and parents love them because they’re interactive, creative, and keep kids busy! They’re a total win as a printable craft product.

Why Agamographs are Trending on Etsy

Agamographs are selling really well on Etsy, especially around seasonal holidays like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, and Christmas. These printable projects make great handmade gifts or are just fun activities for kids to do at home.

Validating the Demand: Using EverBee for Niche Research

Before you create any product, it’s important to make sure people are actually looking for it. I always use EverBee for product research on Etsy. With Everbee, I searched the broad keyword phrase “Mother’s Day craft” and the results were exciting. This niche is packed with activity sheets, printable cards, and handmade projects that parents and teachers are buying like crazy.

The listings I’m seeing are getting hundreds, sometimes thousands, of sales. The revenue on some of them is incredible. A product like an Agamograph fits right in. These products can be cute, interactive, and perfect for classrooms or at-home crafting. For example, with a Mother’s Day theme, you could create one that says “I love you Mom” from one angle and then has flowers or a drawing on the other.

EverBee shows that this niche is worth tapping into. Before creating any digital product to sell on Etsy, do your research!

Creating a Simple Agamograph in Canva: A Step-by-Step Guide

Now, let’s dive into how to make an Agamograph using Canva. It’s easier than you might think!

Setting up Your Canva Document

First, open a new file in Canva. Choose either A4 or US letter size in landscape view. I’ll be using A4 because I’m in Australia and want to print it out later. Keep in mind that this is just one way to do it; there are many different ways to create Agamographs.

Creating the Grid

Next, go to Elements > Tables and insert a table. You’ll need two rows – one shorter for numbering – and 12 columns to create six strips per image. Delete any extra rows. Adjust the table size to fit the page, leaving a small margin for printing. To make the grid less intrusive, adjust the border weight to 1 and the colour to gray.

Marking the Centre Line

To separate the two images, you need to mark the centre line. This is between columns 6 and 7. Select the two centre cells, go to Border, and increase the left border thickness (for example, to 2) to visually separate the images.

Numbering the Strips

Numbering is important because it guides the user in reassembling the strips in the correct order. Add numbers 1 through 12 in the appropriate cells, alternating between the two images.

Designing Your Agamograph Images

Now for the fun part: designing your Agamograph images. Here are a couple of options:

Option 1: Colouring Page Style

Find a simple line drawing (e.g., “lined bunch of flowers”) in Canva or Creative Fabrica. Copy and paste the image into both image areas, making sure they’re centred and don’t touch the edges. This way, kids can colour in the images however they like!

Option 2: Colored Image and Message

Find fun Mother’s Day elements in Canva. Add a colored graphic to one side. On the other side, add a text box with “Happy Mother’s Day, Love from [Name]”. Use a “kids font” that can be colored in. Hollow out the font effect to create an outline. This makes it more personal.

Tips for Advanced Design

I would suggest researching Mother’s Day crafts on Etsy to find popular trends and styles. Then, incorporate those designs into your Agamograph.

Saving Your Design as a PDF

Once you’re happy with your design, go to Share > Download and select “PDF Print.” I recommend adding an instruction page to the beginning of the design to improve the customer experience. A good customer experience leads to positive reviews.
